Earth Day

22nd Apr 2021

Room 1 began their day sharing the story “ The Earth Book” by Todd Parr. We listened to the story and thought about all the different ways we can help (restore) the Earth. We shared our ideas drawing pictures and writing captions. Outside we used recycled cartons to sow peas and bean seeds which we hope will grow into something we can eat. We finished our day with a numeracy lesson involving 10 green bottles. The children had fun outdoors in groups identifying the numbers as they knocked the bottles over with a ball. They also used these recycled bottles to work out what makes 10 counting how many bottles were on the wall and how many were on the ground to make 10 altogether. Indoors they worked with a partner to roll a dice and count spaces forwards to the recycling centre.

Each child took the seeds they sowed  home today. We hope that they will nurture their seeds and talk about how we all can help make our world a better place through reducing waste, reusing and recycling and planting. Also remembering to save energy and stop pollution walking, cycling or scooting to school.
