Preparing for Christmas

6th Dec 2019

Primary 1 have been busy this week preparing our class for Christmas and exploring how  toys work. We have made paper chains, decorated baubles and written labels for presents using our sounds. These are displayed on our sound tree. We explored patterns creating Christmas paper to wrap our toys and to consider how many more presents are needed to make 6. As Christmas approaches we all are thinking about new toys and there has been lots of shopping in our toy shop. At the writing corner the children have been encouraging shoppers to buy toys creating their own For Sale posters advertising toys for sale.We investigated further how magnets work using magnetic wands to move paint balls to create pictures. The children recalled what we learnt in W5 about forces describing if toys worked due to a push, pull or twist force. Water was a popular area as the children investigated how to make boats and water wheels work. They enjoyed building roads and bridge for toy car to travel on and through. Gears proved very popular as children cooperated to create models ensuring movement was achieved using a twist force. Further fun and challenges are planned next week.
