We like to share pancakes

2nd Mar 2022

Room 1 were busy on Tuesday celebrating Pancake Day. We began the day sharing the story of Mama Panya’s Pancakes which is a story based in a village in Kenya. The message in the story is that it is good to share. The children were surprised to find out that from the little flour Mama was able to buy she fed many as others were happy to share as well. This story was a useful link to Fairtrade reminding us that if we can look out and buy Fairtrade items we are helping poor farmers in countries such as Africa get a fair price for their crops. In our follow up literacy activities we practised our cutting skills and sentence building writing a speech bubble for Mama and Adika. After break we made pancakes and shared toppings which were yummy. We also completed numeracy activities shopping for pancakes and colouring using a subitising code.

Our learning today linked to Rights Respecting Articles 24 and 27

To know that every child has the right to the best health care, clean water and nutritious food and that rich countries must help poor(Article 24)

To know that everyone is entitled to an adequate living standard (Article 27)
