Castledawson Primary School

Primary 3-4

Welcome to Room 3!

Learning

In room 3, our topic this term is 'Water, Water, Everywhere’. Some of the areas we will be learning about are how we can conserve water at home and school, local water sources, features of rivers and the different stages of the water cycle.

In Numeracy we will be developing our understanding of number and number notation. We will explore and count numbers within beyond 100, be able to count in twos, fives, tens to help with our times tables. In addition we will further explore and develop an understanding of the place value of numbers up beyond 100 and will be completing addition and subtraction using exchange.

In Literacy we will be looking at the key features of an explanation text linked to the water cycle. We will also begin our shared reading book "Kensuke's Kingdom" by Michael Morpurgo, compare different characters, make predictions and join simple sentences using connectives. We will also be focussing on up levelling sentences using a variety of sentence starters, adjectives, adverbs and punctuation.

Room 3 Staff

Mrs Crooks teaches Monday to Wednesday and Mrs Ng-Yu-Tin teaches Thursday and Friday. Mrs Lamont, Miss Bleaks and Miss Gallagher are our lovely classroom assistants.

PE

Room 3 PE lessons take place on Monday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has the correct full uniform so they can make the most of their PE lessons.

Snack

Children can have a healthy snack as part of their break time. Snacks are currently available in school, please order and pay for snack on the CPS app. As a healthy school, we encourage fruit, vegetables or bread products during this time.

Water Bottles

We highly encourage children to bring a bottle of water to school daily to keep them hydrated throughout their lessons. Children will have many opportunities throughout the day to have a drink of water. Please remember that juice is not permitted in water bottles stored in class but may be consumed with their snack at breaktime.

Reading

All reading books need to be in school everyday. Please try and read with your child at least four times a week as this can help improve your child's, spelling, vocabulary, writing and reading.

The more you read,

the more things you will know.

The more that you learn,

The more places you will go.

That is the way a mind grows

Not with a test, but a tale.

Homework

Homework  is given out each Monday and is to be completed and handed in by the Friday, in the correct homework folder.  Your child will have spelling, maths facts and reading homework Monday to Thursday.   There will be some weeks where we use online programmes for homework e.g. Mathsletics.  These are a vital part of their learning and will be monitored so must be completed.

If you have any comments or concerns please feel free to send us a message on Seesaw.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Mrs Crooks and Mrs Ng-Yu-Tin
