Allotments

15th Jun 2023

On Monday Room 4 had a lovely afternoon with their friends from New Row at the allotments in Castledawson.

They had the opportunity to visit four stations-each with their own activity.

At Station 1 the boys and girls were able to prepare an allotment and plant some leeks. They learned about how to care for the vegetables and flowers that they grow and about the benefits of cultivating our own crops🌽🌾🍅🫛🥕🥔

At Station 2 they learned about recycling by looking at some of the most common things that we throw away in our homes. They then played a fun relay game to test their knowledge of what they'd learned 🗑️

Station 3 was great fun as we made our own plant pots out of newspaper strips and then filled these with compost and planted sunflower seeds to take home and grow ourselves🗞️📰

Station 4 was fun games on the grass😊.

Thank you to Mid Ulster Council for facilitating this event and the Castledawson Community Allotments Group for being there to help and support the children. Thank you too for the lovely strawberry plants which were given to us to take back to school. We have these planted and are eagerly awaiting the growth of some delicious strawberries 🍓
