Big Bird Watch RSPB

27th Jan 2023

All week the boys and girls in Room 5 have been preparing for the annual RSPB Big Birdwatch.

We have been learning why the Big Birdwatch is so important and how the RSPB use the data to identify trends in birds that may be increasing or declining in numbers. We used the RSPB website to learn about different birds, what the look like, what they sound like, where they visit and what they eat and then we made bird feeders. We placed them in our school garden and have been feeding the birds so they don’t go hungry in the cold weather. So many birds visited …the most common were the robin, starlings and house sparrows. They were so interesting to watch as the robin is so territorial even though it’s such a tiny bird.

It was a great week of different activities and we loved learning about nature. 🦜🕊
