Bring 8 On

11th Jun 2025
Today our P7's enjoyed an informative session with Richard Reid called 'Bring 8 On' which discussed how they can transition from P7 to year 8 with confidence.
He discussed the practical elements involved such as getting a new uniform, school bag and wearing a tie. The children completed a few interactive tasks to make them think of all the changes/ challenges that they will face in September when they move to post primary. This included A-Z of things they will encounter in Year 8 at their new school eg new subjects such as Art, Biology and Chemistry etc.
To overcome the fear of transition, Richard explained that they needed the 4 P's: positivity, perseverance, perspective and progress.
Richard explained how our mindset can make any transition daunting and how our brains are wired to resist change when we try something new. He used the acronym 'FAIL' to explain this, First Attempt In Learning. Richard advised that responding to mistakes or falling short in a task was the only way to make progress and if we don't try anything new we won't learn from this. Another great piece of advice was that when they get knocked down they should get back up again and to keep a positive attitude and sensible perspective on everything. The children really enjoyed this session and it gave them lots of opportunities to reflect and think about their future after primary school.
