Day #1 Gortatole, Enniskillen

17th May 2023

What an exciting first day we had on our residential trip to Gortatole, Enniskillen.

The sun shone from this morning and we’ve had a wonderful day doing different activities. We’ll all complete the same activities over the next number of days.

When we arrived we made our beds (which was some fun!!) and then we had lunch which was delicious goujon wraps!

Our afternoon activity was either the climbing wall, canoeing down Lough Erne or caving.

At the climbing wall the kids got to support each other, they learnt how to climb, how to jump down safely and the challenge was to climb as high as each person felt comfortable with. Everyone had a go and each time they could climb higher than the time before. Super job everyone 😊😊

Afterwards they did archery…. they learned how to carry and load their arrows onto their bow, then showed their amazing skills at hitting the targets including a magnificent bullseye!

At canoeing the boys and goths had to work together to build the raft canoes. There were two canoe rafts and after learning how to paddle and steer, we canoed down the Erne. Everyone also enjoyed jumping in off the jetty 😊

During caving we had the opportunity to explore an underground cave. We were able to see fossils and evidence of life in the past and also to experience our different senses in the dark. Brilliant fun and some great team spirit on show as each person took their turn to be group leader.

Afterwards everyone had tea which was delicious and we all were well fed 😋

In the evening we’ve enjoyed team challenges as well as some free time playing football or big games in the common room! A super super bunch of children who are a joy to be with 😊😊♥️♥️

Everyone is looking forward to supper, some fun in our rooms and day 2 tomorrow 🙌
