Day #2 Gortatole Canoeing

18th May 2023

This was another great for the children on Lough Erne! The weather continued to hold up well for us and we enjoyed another dry day!

The boys and girls got kitted out with their wet gear and headed off to build the canoe raft. This required what was called ‘the three Cs’ as they were required to communicate, cooperate and consider each other.

They joined the canoes with wooden planks and fastened them with bunjee rope.

We learned how to paddle and once we set off we worked out how to go forwards, backwards and turn left/ right.

We played a game where we changed positions on the raft and then learned about wind power as we used a sail to sail back down the Lough.

To finish off our time, we enjoyed jumping in off the jetty or jumping off the canoe and swimming to the slipway.

A really brilliant experience for all children who learnt lots of new skills. They loved the fun with their friends and everyone was great and gave everything a go! 😊😊
