Sentinus Microbit Challenge

23rd Mar 2024

Over the past few weeks Room 5 children have been really busy with their BBC Microbit Challenge.

Roy from Sentinus came to visit our class earlier in the year and show us how to code the microbits. Soon after we received our class set and got to work trying them out.

Roy then returned to visit us and explained our challenge which had to be submitted before Easter. We received three McQueen Car Robots and our challenge was to make them dance. We had to include other features eg moving in certain ways, changing direction, including lights, moves activated by sound etc. This was a challenge and it certainly tested patience, perseverance and team work.

The children then created different settings for their robots and this really demonstrated the creativity in all the groups.

We had a Strictly Come Dancing group which programmed their cars to dance. One car was Barbie and the other was Ken!

Another group had a football theme where the car was programmed as if he was the footballer taking a penalty shot. The footballer proceeds then to dance in celebration after scoring.

Another group had a Western theme with the gunshot sound activation for the cars to dance.

Another group had a Formula 1 theme with the cars dancing after winning the race.

Our final group had a Disney On Ice theme with the cars dancing to a Disney song.

You will be completely amazed with the sets and how much work the children put into these. There was also a lot of skill involved in recording the dances and timing various elements to it eg the sound to activate movement, the music and sound effects etc.

The children then edited their recordings on iMovie to create the videos which were submitted.

This was a wonderful learning experience for the children which they really enjoyed. The finished outcome was really impressive in each group and everyone should feel really proud of their hard work and effort. I think they are all amazing! 🤩🤩🤩
